Electric vehicle charging stations now activated

Another step has been achieved in the “Ecological Conversion 2035” program, launched in 2022 aimed at reducing carbon emissions to zero. The Vatican State’s electric vehicle charging service is now functioning.
On December 20, 2024, twenty “fast” charging points on 10 columns were inaugurated in the Petriano parking lot inside the Vatican, and two “ultra fast” charging points on an additional column.
The system was constructed by the Directorate of Infrastructure and Services of the Governorate, in collaboration with the Italian national utility Acea Group.
Thus, the development of the network of charging points for electric vehicles continues within the Vatican City State.
Currently, the service is provided only for Vatican SCV licensed vehicles through the Acea e-mobility cards that are distributed in the office of motor vehicles of the Directorate of Economy (formerly the cards and fuel office), on the ground floor of the Palazzo del Governatorato.
To recharge a vehicle simply bring the Acea e-mobility card close to the sensor on a column located inside the Vatican City State.
This possibility will soon be extended to the vehicles of the employees of the Governorate and the Holy See: it is the first time that the charging service for electric vehicles is available, alongside the sale of traditional fuels.
Furthermore, in the coming weeks, the Governorate will offer its employees a direct medium and long-term rental service of electric vehicles in order to further facilitate the ecological transition and the environmental sustainability of private transport to and from the Vatican City State.
